This past Sunday, I was interviewed by Kaiju Kim, who makes the most wholesome kaiju content you’ll see on YouTube. It was Father’s Day, so the chat was relatively quiet, but we still had a good time discussing kaiju literature–including books and short stories I’ve written and published myself. Give it a watch!

I read ‘Destroyer’ chapter on Derailed Trains of Thought podcast
My friends Nick Hayden and Timothy Deal featured me on their amazing podcast, “Derailed Trains of Thought,” again. Last November they interviewed me when Pandora’s Box was published. In their latest episode, I read chapter six of Destroyer in a segment called “A Bit of Story.” If you want to get a taste of the story before purchasing it on www.Lulu.com or www.Smashwords.com, check this out. You can also download the podcast from iTunes onto your iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
While you’re there, please listen to previous episodes of the podcast. It’s quite good. Both Tim (one of the novella’s co-authors) and Nick have great insights into storytelling, and, I might add, awesome senses of humor. If you’re a creative person looking for a place to discuss ideas about the art and craft storytelling, go no further.
And when you comment, tell ’em Nate sent you.
‘Destroyer’ cover art finished and revealed!
After a month of work (and a few short delays), the cover art for Destroyer, a pulpy science fiction novella I co-wrote with my writer friends Natasha Hayden and Timothy Deal, has been finished!
Take a gander:
This cover painting was created by Tyler Sowles, who I found by placing an ad in the Godzilla fanzine, G-Fan. I highly recommend checking out Tyler’s website: www.thekillustrator.com. If you’re into monsters and/or superheroes, he has a lot of artwork related to those sorts of characters.
Destroyer tells the tale of a group of scientists and soldiers who create a giant cybernetic dragon to end a war, but the creature goes berserk and strands them in Moscow, one of the enemy capitals, and goes on a rampage.
The book will soon be available in print from www.Lulu.com and as an eBook from www.SmashWords.com. It will also be the latest “publication” from Novel Concept (more on that later).
Stay tuned for more updates.
‘Destroyer’ update – Cover artist selected
Things are moving along for Destroyer, a pulpy science fiction novella I co-wrote with some writer friends a few years ago. After much deliberation, I have selected a cover artist. Hopefully in a month or so, he’ll have it finished. I plan to self-publish the book using Lulu.com for print copies and as an ebook on Smashwords.com.
Stay tuned for more updates.
New novella coming soon! (most likely)
Some of you may have noticed I’ve had a “Novellas” page within the “Nathan’s Works” tab since I started this website nearly a year ago, and that there was a title listed there. It said, “Destroyer – Coming Soon!” That was in reference to a novella I co-wrote with two writer friends over the course of a year from 2008-2009 as part of a writers’ project. It is a pulp science fiction tale. I was very happy with how it turned out and even looked for a place to publish it for a short while, but to no avail. So it’s been left on the drawing board ever since.
Until now.
Having tasted some success with Pandora’s Box, I’m thinking about venturing into the world of self-publishing with this story. The length and genre make it difficult to market to prospective publishers, so I believe this is the best route to take. Not only will I get a byline, but so will two of my friends. I’m even toying with the idea of recording an audio version and posting it on iTunes.
But this is all down the road a bit. Currently, I am considering artists to create the cover. Then I will talk with Nick Hayden, who has some self-publishing experience, about how we might go about it. I still have no idea when or if this book will be published.
Stay tuned.
