My hiatus is over! (“And there was much rejoicing. Yay…”) I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge fan of Toho’s Godzilla franchise. Most of those films are among my guilty pleasures. So, since my friend Sergio Garza is a horror movie fan, I decided to have him review Garth Edwards’ big-budget reboot of Big G with me. Enjoy!
You can read my review of the film for GigaGeek Magazine here.
My review as a guest host on the Strangers and Aliens podcast is here.
In case you didn’t know, I’m a huge of Toho’s Godzilla franchise. I have been since high school. With a few exceptions, I consider these movies to be some of my guilty pleasures.
That being said, this week I reviewed the new American film–which I loved–not once, but twice (and there may be a third!) First, I wrote a review for GIGA Geek Magazine. The second, however, was the most fun. I was the guest host on the “Strangers and Aliens” podcast with my friend and fellow Christian writer and Godzilla fan, Ben Avery. I enjoyed it so much, I want to be on his show again. 😉 You can listen to it here.
What will the third one be? Most likely an overdue new vlog! (Until then, you can watch my review of last summer’s Pacific Rim).
And for all you kaiju fans out there, be sure to check out my own giant monster story, Destroyer.
Happy Halloween, True Believers! In honor the spookiest time of the year, I’ve decided to do another top five list. This time it’s the five best giant monster movies. Enjoy my selections!
After it seemed like everything was keeping me from posting this video, here it is!
I “meet” a famous monster and nearly fire my brother/cameraman/sometimes co-host today before I review the under-appreciated summer blockbuster, “Pacific Rim.” Surprisingly, it’s more than just a series of giant monster vs. giant robot fights. Watch to learn more.
This video is a week late (I’ll be posting about this issue soon), but now it’s done.
There are lots of good out there, but many of them go unnoticed by audiences. This is my short list of flicks that are underrated or under-watched. Do you agree? What movies are on your list? Let me me know in the comments!
After fighting a long battle with Lulu.com‘s cover wizard program, I am ecstatic to announce that Destroyerhas been self-published in print! This is a novella I co-wrote with Natasha Hayden and Timothy Deal from 2008-2009 as part of a year-long “Pulp Fiction Project” we and our writer friends did. I chose to write a “monster story” (which, as one guy pointed out, meant I could write “everything from Frankenstein to Godzilla”) and spent three months writing part one (about 10,000 words). The goal was to have a 30,000 word book by the end of the project. Then at our follow-up meetings throughout the year, we drew names from a hat, and that person wrote the next section of the story. Those fell to Natasha for part two and Timothy for part three.
I decided several months ago it was time for this to get published.
Destroyer tells the tale of a group of scientists and soldiers who create a giant cybernetic dragon to end a war, but the creature goes berserk and strands them in Moscow, one of the enemy capitals, and goes on a rampage.
I know that sounds like a B-movie plot, but I promise you it is closer to the movie Cloverfield, and it even has some shades of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It was, I will admit, inspired by a few Godzilla movies.
Regardless, it is available here on Lulu.com as a paperback and as a downloadable PDF. It will soon be available as an eBook on www.SmashWords.com, so you can take it anywhere on your mobile device.
Prepare yourself for some thrills and chills, readers!
